76% of Canadians will shop online this holiday season
76% is what “Canada Post says” CBCnews reported in an article earlier this year. But that’s not the only indication – The Globe and Mail reported Nov.30 that “Black Friday online spending in Britain jumps 36 per cent.” Global News reported Nov.26 that “According to an Equifax survey, 75 per cent of Canadians plan on doing part or all of their holiday shopping online.”
The headline that I can truly identify with came via Marketwired – Nov. 12, 2015, news release from FedEx Express Canada, “Canadians Turn to Online Shopping to Alleviate Holiday Stress.”
Yes! Online is the place to be this year!! More and more consumers are shopping online. People are saying things like:
- it is more convenient – they can do it when they want
- things are in stock, so buyers aren’t running from store to store to find that item where the last one in the store seems to have just been plucked off the shelf (or someone picked it up and put it down on some other nebulous shelf)
- and, my favourite, you don’t have to carry all those parcels to the car, out of the car, into the house – they are delivered to your door or your giftee’s door.
Particularly for indie authors, online is the best and most cost-effective place to provide access for readers to purchase your book. HOWEVER, they have to find you!
That’s why we are hosting a special holiday event – a Virtual Treasure Hunt -:)
