Navigating Author Payments
We saw an interesting article recently that offers info on payments for traditional publishing contracts.
If you are a self-published author, you will see an interesting contrast to how you get paid, i.e., you may make more if you are good at marketing yourself/your product.
Highlights of the article:
- Royalties range from 4% to 50%.
- Payments are different from royalties…lump sum vs distributed in increments (~ self-publishing means you pay to publish but profits are all yours)
- Ebook royalties are higher (~a simple add-on to self-published books)
- Having a contract – absolutely! Publishing in any way – you must understand your responsibilities, what your publishing team will do, and how it will work throughout the process!
